Healthful Alternative: Green Tea

Reading a book Green Tea for Health & Vitality by Dr. Jorg Zittlau.  Dr.Jorg advocates that green tea is potent in preventing illnesses and providing therapeutic support for a wide range of illnesses.  So in my case, green tea should have a positive effect to help decrease cholesterol levels and high blood pressure.
Dr. Jorg included receipes for over 20 health problems and ailments, plus information such as symptoms of ailments, biological and psychological background, and how green tea helps.
So please excuse me while I brew myself a cuppa' green tea!

Commitment & Adherence

Committing to a health programme in uni-mid semester is a challenge. Academic life is taking a toll of my time - heavy lecture schedule, lots of reading, presentations, assignments... There are nights when I am able to pack in only 4 hours sleep! Arrrrgh! Big sleep deficit.

I am diligently adhering to my supplements programme, towards lowering cholesterol, and staving off aging. But still no exercise routine except for that dreadful stairway between faculty block and hilltop car park. We will check whether my supplements programme is working by early March. I have planned a blood-lipids test for March 2. Fingers crossed!

Weight plateau

Have been doing daily weigh-in to monitor my weight.  I seem to have hit a plateau!  This means that I have only lost 1kg and am now stuck at 51kg. What can I do now?  I want to lose at least another 2kg in this campaign.

Oatmeal Dinners

I have being enjoying a bowl of oatmeal for dinner at least twice a week since beginning of February. This is to make up for weekend dinners which are usually rich and heavy. Eventhough I am mindful of my portions, there are always so many dishes to taste that the amount adds up. So, am I kidding myself?

To save the Face or the Bottom?

Don't seem to have time for any walking exercise over this last long weekend. However, I did get my full eight hours sleep every night, and had two dinners of oats. So far weight loss stands at 1kg. I gave myself a tiny pat on my own back!
It crossed my mind that if I am 47kg, will I look haggard??  My vanity is screaming at that image.  Urrgh!  The saying is spread your bottom to save your face.... However, I shall not use that as an excuse for not persevering in being healthier.  I shall duly monitor myself to avoid such sagging sight.

Supplements as Health Booster

I compared my two health reports on my cholesterol readings done on January 18 and 28 respectively. Evidence that supplements are useful.

January 18 report is the 'start-point' of this endeavour to improve my health. Thereafter, daily I took : 1,000mg Oil of Flaxseed,1,000mg Lecithin, 400i.u. vitamin E, 5,000i.u. vitamin A, and 1,000mg vitamin C. Ten days later, the improvement as found in my medical examination of January 28.
Lipid Profile                     Start-point               10 days later
                Cholesterol Total           6.8                  6.5  (drop 0.3)
                Cholesterol HDL           1.62                1.8  (up 0.2)
                Cholesterol LDL            4.4                  3.8  (drop 0.6)

Then I discovered that I have been under-dose against the recommended daily dosage of my core group of supplements. Maybe that accounts for the small improvements... time to go on the correct dosage.  Yeehaaa!

Medical Report

First the good news. The good doctor at Prince Court Medical Centre has pronounced me in normal health and condition. In short, nothing serious to freak out over  :  ).

The bit of bad news is my HDL cholesterol ratio is poor.  Specifics to improve it : [i] lose 3-5kg (from 52.2 to 47kg);  [ii] to convert my body fat to muscle to improve BMI to 20 (from 23); [iii] elevate my HDL cholesterol (from 1.8 to 3.5).

Doctor also recommended weight training. Walking around the campus with my bag of books, thermos flask and iPad do not count as exercise. Sigh!  Even walking up and down my nemesis - the staircase to hilltop carpark - is inadequate challenge. Oouch!
